What is a Periodontist?
Periodontists are dentists who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease. They have had extensive training with two additional years of study after dental school. As specialists they devote their time, energy and skill to helping patients care for their gums. A periodontist is one of the eight dental specialists recognized by the American Dental Association.

Who are our Periodontists?
Dr. Anastasia Kelekis-Cholakis obtained her BA from the University of Winnipeg in 1988 and her DMD and Diploma in Periodontics from the University of Manitoba in 1992 and 1998. She also attended the Misch Institute Program in Implant Dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Cholakis is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Dr. Cholakis specializes in periodontics and implant dentistry and is an Assistant Professor and the Graduate Periodontal Clinic Director at the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Dentistry.
Dr. Jaswinder Brar graduated in dentistry from the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (India) in 2001. After three years of general practice, Dr Brar enrolled in graduate studies at university of Manitoba, where he received his specialty training in Periodontics. He graduated from the program in 2007 and thereafter also took NBDE exams to get US dental license. He subsequently accepted teaching position in the graduate Periodontics program, University of Manitoba. He is currently Assistant Professor of Periodontics, and he also works part-time in Private Periodontal office. As a Board Certified Periodontist, Dr Brar specializes in conservative treatment of gum disease, cosmetic procedures to aesthetically enhance your smile, and dental implants that can replace single or multiple missing teeth.
